News from the Pews 12 – 28th February 2020

Faith Confirmed

On Saturday 22nd March we were delighted to open the doors of St Patrick’s Church in Powerscourt to Rev. Rob Clements and 23 Confirmation Candidates and their families and friends from both Powerscourt with Kilbride and Kilternan Parish.

The candidates were confirmed by the Archbishop of Dublin and Bishop of Glendalough the Very Reverend Michael Jackson. Our sincere thanks to all those who stepped forward to prepare the church for this event including one of our two new teams of ‘Dust Fairies’ (you a group of mums from the school who have joined our church cleaning rota) and one family who, despite it being half term, turned up on Friday morning to clear the paths in the graveyard following the storms.

We ask that you remember the following candidates in your prayers and look forward to seeing them this Sunday morning at 11:30 in St Patrick’s church as they receive their first Eucharist.

As part of our Lenten observance, Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish is hosting a series of sessions, “Sitting with the Gospels of Lent”.  There will be five weekly sessions during which people will be invited to participate in a quiet, prayerful reflection on the Gospel reading for the following Sunday.

This is an excellent way in which to prepare for Easter and to move deeper into the richness and beauty of the Scriptures.  The meetings will be based on the simple but profound approach to reading the Bible, called Lectio Divina.  This method is easily accessible to everyone regardless of previous experience. All are warmly welcomed.

POWERSCOURT MUSIC GROUP – Back on Mother’s Day!

The worship group will be providing music for the family service on Mothering Sunday and welcome any new members.

We will soon be setting up for our birthday lunch which will be later in the month,  We are lucky to have so many birthdays in March and again in October/November which allows us to do two big lunch celebrations , This makes it a more special  occasion,  when each member is invited to bring a friend along to join the fun. We usually have about 32 or so for these afternoons.   This year we celebrate with the two Ann’s, Sheila, and Anna, but will miss Josephine, and Jo who would have celebrated with us at this time.
